INTENDED PURPOSE:

NOVAtest® Fecal Occult Blood Test offers a rapid, visually read and qualitative test for people who want to know if they have gut bleeding. The user can know possible gut bleeding by testing their faeces sample with this double-antibody sandwich method of lateral flow immunoassay. This test is entirely manual by the user.

INTENDED USER:

Performance of the test is limited to self-testing. The test is intended for people who may have lower gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. (e.g. colon polyps, colorectal carcinoma, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn’s disease)

SUMMARY:

Fecal occult blood (FOB) refers to a small amount of blood in the stool. Generally, the appearance of the stool does not change, and blood is not easily found in the stool. Many diseases can cause faecal occult blood. In the early stage of some gastrointestinal problems such as colorectal cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures may not show any visible symptoms, only occult blood. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. Therefore, the detection of faecaloccult blood can detect the symptoms of cancer at an early stage and allow patients to get medical treatment in time.

Earlier commercially available FOB tests utilized a guaiac test. This method has diet restrictions prior to testing. NOVAtest® Fecal Occult Blood Test has no dietary restrictions and more sensitivity.
