INTENDED USE:
HIV Antigen + Type I/Type II Antibody Joint Test is an immunochromatographic assay that uses double-antigen and double-antibody sandwich method for qualitative detection of p24 antigen and anti-HIV I virus/ anti-HIV II virus total antibodies from serum, plasma or whole blood specimen from patients. It is intended to be used for screening or as an aid in the diagnosis of infection with HIV. Performance of the test is limited to professional use. The test kit cannot be used as the sole basis for treatment or other management decision. For in vitro diagnostic use only.
SUMMARY:
Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV), include HIV I and HIV II), are pathogenic retroviruses that cause HIV infection and the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It was estimated that 38.4 million people worldwide are living with HIV and 650,000 people dying from HIV-related causes in 2021. HIV infection causes gradual failure of the immune system in human, leading to an increased susceptibility of the body to life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers. Both HIV I and HIV II viruses can elicit strong immune responses. HIV I virus is endemic globally, while HIV II is only endemic in parts of Africa. Presence of specific anti-HIV I or HIV II virus antibodies in whole blood, serum or plasma indicates the exposure of an individual to the HIV I or HIV II which is of great value for clinical diagnosis. HIV p24 antigen is one of the earliest markers of HIV infection which may be useful for the early diagnosis of HIV. The serological methods are widely used in the laboratory diagnosis of HIV I and HIV II infection.
