INTENDED USE:
Syphilis Total Antibody Serum Test is an immunochromatographic assay that uses double-antigen sandwich method for qualitative detection of antibodies against Treponema pallidum in human serum and plasma specimens. It’s used for aid to diagnosis syphilis. This device is performed manually.
SUMMARY:
Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the spirochaete Treponema pallidum subspecies. According to the most recent estimation of the WHO, approximately 17.7 million individuals 15-49 years of age globally had syphilis in 2012, with an estimated 5.6 million new cases every year. The estimated prevalence and incidence of syphilis varied substantially by region or country, with >60% of new cases occurring in LMICs. Treponema pallidum which is transmitted by sexual contact or vertical transmission during pregnancy. The disease is classified as early syphilis (less than 12 months, including primary and secondary syphilis) and as late syphilis (Tertiary syphilis). Tertiary syphilis is rarely contagious. The Treponema Pallidum cannot be cultured on artificial media and thus the diagnosis of syphilis depends on clinical manifestations and results from serological tests of specific TP antibodies.
