NOVAtest® Brucella Total Antibody Test

REF:

C3202 (Cassette)

INTENDED USE:

Brucella Total Antibody Test is a chromatographic immunoassay (CIA) for direct qualitative detection of Brucellosis antibody in human serum or plasma.

SUMMARY:

Brucellosis is strictly aerobic, Gram-negative coccobacillus which causes Brucellosis. This organism is sometimes carried by animals and only causes incidental infections in humans. The four species of this genus that can infect humans are named for the animal which they are most commonly found: B. abortus (cattle), B. suis (swine), B. melitensis (goats), B. canis (dogs). The cattle and dairy industries seem to be the primary source of infection in the United States. Brucellosis can enter the body via the skin, respiratory tract, ordigestive tract. Once there, this intracellular organism can enter the blood and the lymphatics where it multiplies inside phagocytes and eventually cause bacteremia (bacterial blood infiltration). Symptoms vary from patient to patient but can include high fever, chills, and sweating. Afflicted individuals are usually treated with streptomycin or erythromycin. Brucellosis RST is a chromatographic immunoassay (CIA) for the detection of Brucellosis antibody in human serum or plasma. Specific antigens are pre-coated onto membrane as a capture reagent on the test region. During the test, specimen is allowed to react with the antigens firstly. And then chasing buffer mixed with Protein A, which conjugated with colloidal gold, will flow onto the membrane. If Brucellosis antibody present, a pink colored band will develop on the area of membrane. Absence of this pink colored band in the test region suggests a negative result. To serve as a procedural control, a pink colored band in the B region will always appear regardless the presence of Brucellosis antibody.
