INTENDED USE:
Ebola Virus Antigen Test is an immunochromatographic assay that use double-antibody sandwich method for qualitative detection of antigen from Ebola viruses in whole blood, serum or plasma specimens. It’s used as an aid in the diagnosis of Ebola virus infection. Performance of the test is limited to professional use.
SUMMARY:
Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a life-threatening disease caused by Ebola virus. There are 5 distinct species of Ebola virus named after the regions of outbreak. Among all the species, Zaire ebolavirus (ZEBV) is the most lethal pathogen of among all Ebola viruses which causes more than 90% of the highest mortality rate due to haemorrhagic fever in humans and primates. EVD case fatality remains high, with a pooled case fatality rate (CFR) of 60% in outbreaks from 2010-2020. The incubation period, that is, the time interval from infection with the virus to onset of symptoms is 2 to 21 days. During early EVD, patients present with a non-specific febrile illness, followed by gastrointestinal signs and symptoms that frequently lead to hypovolaemia, metabolic acidosis, hypoglycaemia and multi-organ failure. WHO recommended nucleic acid tests and rapid antigen tests for Ebola virus infection. Ebola Virus (Zaire) Antigen Test is a simple, rapid antigen test that can give a result at 15~20 minutes.
