INTENDED USE:

Respiratory Syncytial Virus Antigen Test Kit is an immunoassay that uses the double-antibody sandwich method to detect the RSV F-protein antigen from Nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) from patients who a develop respiratory symptoms. Performance of the test is limited to professional use. Respiratory Syncytial Virus Antigen Test Kit provides preliminary test results. The test kit cannot be used as the sole basis for treatment or other management decision.

SUMMARY:

Respiratory syncytial virus is a single-stranded (negative strand) RNA virus of the Paramyxoviridae family. which causes infection of the lungs and breathing passages, is a major cause of respiratory illness in young children. In adults, it may only produce symptoms of a common cold, such as a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, mild headache, cough, fever, and a general feeling of being ill. In children hospitalized with RSV infection, it is believed to be the most common viral cause of death in children younger than 5 years, particularly in children younger than one year.
