INTENDED USE:

Adenovirus Antigen Test Kit is an immunoassay that uses the double-antibody sandwich method to detect the adenovirus hexon protein antigen from Nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) from patients who a develop respiratory symptoms. Performance of the test is limited to professional use.  Adenovirus Antigen Test Kit provides preliminary test results. The test kit cannot be used as the sole basis for treatment or other management decision.

SUMMARY:

Adenoviruses are non-enveloped viruses with double-stranded DNA. 67 serotypes and seven   species (A through G) are recognized. Human Adenoviruses comprise an important group of etiologic agents that are responsible for various diseases in adults and children. Respiratory-tract disease ranges from mild upper-tract involvement, typically with nonspecific cold-like symptoms, to severe pneumonia. Adenovirus infections are most common among children, people living in close quarters or closed populations, such as college students and military recruits, and among immunocompromised patients.
